           " Selfie to Paname ", détail - " Trinity ", 2012, technique mixte sur papier, 65 x 65cm

Catalin Guguianu, standing against the aestheticizing dictatorship of concept

Mercenary and protean artist, Catalin Guguianu escapes all yokes and reinvents himself ceaselessly. His social and playful vision leads him to address each new installation a territories to be conquered, as a battle between aesthetics and concept.

When designing visual devices, Catalin Guguianu leaves it to the viewer to identify the necessary clues.
He conceives each project as an initiatory journey around a graphic scenario. Donning the clothes of the explorer artist, Catalin Guguianu observes, points to and practices with detached humour. Diversion is the common thread. He adopts as many formats as he uncovers opportunities for mutations. He captures the diversity of mediums to unfold apparently infinite landscapes with the accumulation of 40 to 100 pieces.
Each times he offers a perspective that hardly deviates from the real world but invites us to reconsider it and adopt a point of view.

Catalin Guguianu however, does not wish to take part in aggressive activism; he does not propose solutions, he does not offer slogans.

Chocked by the barbarity humans can demonstrate, he created "Selfie to Paname", a composition built around the nightmarish projection of his decapitated self, wearing a mask instead of his head.
With "RRomwellbox" he fetishizes an American beautification company developing liposuction technology as a talisman.

Originally from Romania, Catalin Guguianu now lives in Paris. Here he has found bright and passionate grounds that never fail to inspire him. For the “Nuit Blanche”, he proposes a digital journey into an imaginary cloister (« L’ECHALIER - PARLEAZU’ »). His installation "véloLINGA” sublimates pillars of Vélib stations into phallus of Shiva, insidiously making ways into an eroticized Paris.
"YETI.COMfusion" addresses climate change through a truculent composition of surfboards for Yeti. When the artist does not follow another red thread: the Iberian world and particularly the problematic subject of bullfighting with "iberianOption"), he creates a minimal flipbook in print: "CARNEtIOVA".

Catalin Guguianu addresses the aestheticizing dictatorship of conceptual art, demanding a plural and hedonistic reading of his work. Between conviviality and sacrificial offerings, the scattered traces of his persistent fascination rest on a form of poetry, cognitive, voluntary and meaningful.
Deeply anchored in reality, the fictional powers of Catalin Guguianu’s propositions where form, function and meaning collide, push us out of our comfort zone and refresh our point of views.
